Music is an art. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything.
The Atlanta Metropolitan Symphony (former Atlanta Community Symphony Orchestra) strives to enrich the community that it serves through music. We hope to foster the relationships of our community both in and around our music by presenting educational, interactive, and outreach opportunities. Activities such as chamber concerts in our “In Your Neighborhood” series, the Art in Music Program, and the annual Ruth Kern Young Artists Competition provide the community with ways to come together and grow musically.
Art in Music Program
Students in Grades 3-5 have the chance to experience the melding of music and art listening to music and using painting or drawing to understand and process their emotions in healthy ways, gaining appreciation for a whole new genre of music.
Ruth Kern Young Artists Competition
We honor Ruth Kern’s enduring legacy by providing young musicians the opportunity to share their talents, grow as performers, and carry forward Ruth’s vision of musical excellence and community enrichment.
Atlanta Metropolitan Symphony believes music has the power to inspire creativity, build confidence, and connect people of all ages. Through initiatives like our Art in Music program, elementary students explore the relationship between music and visual art while developing creativity and self-expression. At the same time, the Ruth Kern Young Artists Competition encourages and celebrates the next generation of exceptional young musicians by providing performance opportunities alongside a full symphony orchestra. Together, these programs reflect the Atlanta Metropolitan Symphony’s commitment to education, artistic excellence, and creating meaningful opportunities for young people to engage with music.
